Only four years ago, Mark wouldn't have been able to stop himself. Eduardo, he's better than this island. Better than a place without currency, better than a place that has developed a strip club, a bakery, and a boutique, all before trying to put together any type of bank. This is just beneath him. Beneath him, and that's not even because the island itself is shoddy or incapable of keeping anyone happy— instead, it's because Eduardo's one of the brightest people Mark's ever met, multi-faceted and skilled in a number of different fields, rather than solely focusing on any single one. But in four years, Mark's learned that the traits that he'd personally compliment aren't always those that people want to hold most closely to. And with the way that Eduardo's hunched, shoulders pulling up at his neck, Mark suspects he should just stop pushing the matter. For a moment, all he can ask himself is what the damn point is, if he keeps on tripping time after time, if Eduardo keeps on leaping to the worst possible interpretation.
He sighs deeply, but quietly, air rushing through the slight sliver between his lips. "You know that's not what I meant," he says, the words quick and terse as he tries to quicken the pace. The words aren't meant to be accusatory, really, but what else is there for him to say?
